Float Framing

Best for Original Artworks on Canvas or Board

When you invest in an original canvas artwork it will arrive professionally stretched with love and care by hand. The canvas work will also have a string attached so it is ready for you to hang on your wall with ease. This applies to both unframed and framed pieces. So, adding a frame to your canvas artwork is not essential for hanging – rather it comes down to your personal preference and the look/feel you’d like to achieve if your interior space.

If you do opt for framing, my canvas original artworks are framed in a style called a ‘float frame’. As the name suggests, a float frame creates a visual effect that the artwork is 'floating' within the frame without touching it. This technique showcases the entirety of the artwork while adding depth and perspective.

These float frames are made by hand from solid timber on the Gold Coast, Australia.

Float framing information:

  • lovingly made by hand by a team of professional picture famers on the Gold Coast, Australia
  • made from quality materials including solid timber
  • approx 1cm wide on the face and 5cm deep, floated with an approx 5mm space between the canvas and the frame, to create a shadow line and
  • finished in either natural oak, black or white, depending on the artwork.

When you invest in a piece of original wall art on cavas, you’ll see the option to add a frame on the artwork detail page. The frame colour available is carefully matched to the artwork, ensuring that the frame will accentuate the artwork well.

These same details apply for original artworks on board!

Shadow Box Frame with Float Mounting

Best for Original Artworks on Paper

My original paper artworks come packaged in an art print sleeve, which is used to protect the artwork from dust, fingerprints and other potential damage during storage or transportation. The art print sleeve includes a clear sleeve and a backing board. The backing board provides support and stability to prevent the artwork from bending or creasing.

If you choose to add framing to your original paper artwork, you will be provided the option of a shadow box frame with float mounting.

This framing method involves floating the artwork off of the backing board. This is done by using spacers behind the artwork, so that there is a small space between the artwork and the bottom mat. The result is really beautiful, giving the effect that the artwork is hovering within the box frame.

Shadow box frames with float mounting information:

  • made with sustainably and locally sourced solid timber (FSC Tasmanian Oak),
  • lovingly made by hand by a team of professional picture famers on the Gold Coast, Australia,
  • approx 2cm wide on the face and 4cm deep,
  • ready to hang with d-rings and chord attached and
  • finished in natural oak.

Shadow Box Framing

Best for Limited Edition Fine Art Prints

Limited edition fine art prints come both unframed and framed.

If you purchase an unframed print, it will be shipped in a premium rigid mailing tube to ensuring safe delivery. You can then choose to display the artwork unframed (although framing your work provides better protection) or you can purchase your own off-the-shelf frame.

If you opt to have your limited edition fine art print framed, it will be framed in a shadow box frame. This framing style places the artwork at the back of the frame, recessed from the glazing at the front, creating a 'shadow' effect. I love shadow box framing as it gives artworks a modern, clean aesthetic while highlighting the artwork and giving it a sense of depth.

Shadow box frames information:

  • made from quality materials including solid timber

My commitment to sustainability

My fine art prints are printed and framed to order – so while that means a slightly longer wait, it also means that prints are only produced when they already have a beautiful home ready for them!

All canvas works are hand stretched with love on the Gold Coast. Frames are also handmade on the Gold Coast, Australia, using solid timbers.

Supporting local craftspeople is important to me – that’s why I offer frames that are professionally made by hand. Your purchase is not only an investment in art, it's an investment in local small business. When you buy from me, you don't only support me - you support my local production partners too!
